OT Brandon Scherff, Iowa
Age: 23
Height: 6-5
Weight: 319

College Career: Three-year starter at left tackle for the Hawkeyes. Could have left early last year, but decided to stay at Iowa for his senior season. Was a unanimous All-American and Outland Trophy winner in 2014.

Strengths: Hard worker with great technique. Strong in both the run and passing game. Type of player who will be great in a locker room, leading by example. Ready to go, having played in a pro-style offense at Iowa.

Weaknesses: Lacks the athleticism NFL teams prefer at left tackle. Could end up on the right side.

Bears Outlook: It would surprise many (including me) if the Bears address the offensive line with the seventh overall pick, but Scherff would not be a bad selection at that spot. He’s going to be a very good NFL offensive lineman and will be able to start right away. Adding Scherff would give the Bears a lot of flexibility as they could start him immediately at right tackle or they could move Kyle Long to tackle and use Scherff at guard. Either way, the rookie out of Iowa could be the missing piece in what is already solid starting unit.
