Sometime after telling reporters about his favorite Will Ferrell movies (Old School, Step Brothers and the criminally underrated Semi-Pro), Cubs Manager Joe Maddon got down to business.

“[Cuts] will probably happen early next week. I talked to Theo [Espstein] and Jed [Hoyer] both today about that,” said Maddon. “By Sunday or Monday we should be able to get that together and make the adjustments.”

Maddon figured five to ten players would be sent down. In his words, “not overly dramatic but we gotta clean some of it out.”

What will be interesting is seeing whether some of the big-name prospects are among those “cleaned out.” Javy Baez’s struggles have been noted (and claimed by Maddon). Given that more reps seems to be the best way to cure his poor strike zone discipline, he seems most likley of the top-rated kids to be sent down.

Speaking of Baez, a fan had a fairly clever sign made up for her favorite player.
