CHICAGO — It’s been eight months since Bears safety Chris Conte found himself in the wrong coverage, only able to turn around and watch as Packers wide

receiver Randall Cobb ran down field wide open to catch the NFC North clinching touchdown from Aaron Rodgers.

Since then, Conte has endured endless bashing from fans, shoulder surgery in March and, most recently, a concussion sustained in Seattle 16 days ago.

But Conte has recovered from all of that and will not only be in the lineup for Sunday’s opener against the Bills, but he will start alongside newcomer Ryan Mundy.

“I don’t plan on having a lot of support, that’s for sure,” Conte said at Halas Hall this week. “But I’m going to go out there and play football. That’s what my job is and that’s what I’m going to go do.”

Bears head coach Marc Trestman has said all week that Conte could be limited from a conditioning standpoint, so Danny McCray could be rotated in at times.

“We’ll see where he is as the game moves along,” Trestman said. “We feel good about the fact we’ve got guys we can move in there. That’s kind of the approach that we’re gonna take.”
